Brian Ruane is an Executive Vice President at BNY Mellon, a member of the Executive Committee for Pershing, a BNY Mellon company, and a member of BNY Mellon’s Global Operating Committee. He is responsible for Broker-Dealer Services, U.S. Tri-Party Services, and Global Clearing. Brian is also responsible for the Banks, Broker-Dealer and Investment Advisor Market Segment at BNY Mellon.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Ruane was colead of Pershing Prime Services and CEO of BNY Mellon’s Alternative Investment Services (AIS). In this role, he established the AIS prime custody business which remains one of the fastest growth businesses at the company. He also cosponsored numerous thought leadership white papers including, “Institutional Demand for Hedge Funds: New Opportunities and New Standards” (Parts I and II), “The Hedge Fund of Tomorrow: Building an Enduring Firm” in conjunction with Casey, Quirk & Associates, as well as “Private Equity Faces the Future: Candid Views from the Market.” Mr. Ruane was previously head of Global Client Management in North America.
Mr. Ruane has helped drive industry change by serving on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Working Committee on The Future of The U.S. Government Securities Markets in 2004 and more recently the industry Task Force for Tri-Party Repo Infrastructure Reform.
Mr. Ruane is also a member of the advisory board of The UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business and The Frank G. Zarb School of Business, from which he received an MBA in international finance. Born in the U.S. and raised in Ireland, Mr. Ruane is also a graduate of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants in the UK and Ireland.
